Session 1: The College Admissions Process - An Overview

Jeff and Kedra give the lay of the land when it comes to navigating the college process: Does it have to feel so anxious? What do parents need to know--and how involved should we be? How has the pandemic changed the process? Whether you’re just embarking on this journey or are right in the thick of it, they’ll give you some words of wisdom and practical advice to guide you on your way. Deep breath: here we go!

Jeff Selingo & Kedra Ishop Ph.D.

Session 2: The College Search

What does it mean when a college is the right fit? Allison and Sydney talk about how to evaluate colleges to determine if they're the right fit. They'll also address how to get the most out of a college visit (whether in-person or virtual), and other key factors to consider when making a college list or, in the case of high school seniors, deciding whether to attend a school where they've been accepted.

Allison Slater Tate & Sydney Montgomery

Session 3: Testing 1, 2, 3

Should your kid take the ACT? The SAT? Both? Neither? And what does “test optional” really mean? Emily and Akil break it down, so you can help your teen prepare effectively and understand how their test scores could impact admissions and merit aid opportunities.

Emily Levitt & Akil Bello

Session 4: Beyond Grades - Essential Life Skills

We spend a lot of time as parents helping our kids get to college. But do we spend enough time making sure they’re ready to BE there? What are the essential life skills they should have under their belt before they get to campus? Julie and Wendy will spell them out. The good news? It’s not too late to teach them.

Julie Lythcott-Haims & Wendy Mogel, Ph.D.

Session 5: The Right Financial Fit

When it comes to finding the right college fit, finances should be a part of the equation. With tuition topping out at $80,000 per year at some private colleges, college may be the biggest investment your family will make- and you want to be sure you get a return on that investment. Hear from Jeff and Belinda on how to make sure you know what you're in for and have a plan to pay for college that make sense for your family.

Jeff Levy & Belinda J. Wilkerson, Ed.D.

Session 6: Financial Aid Boot Camp

Essential information for any family looking to pay less than the sticker price! Nat and Nancy break down who gets grant aid, how to get merit aid, why you should always fill out the FAFSA, and how to evaluate – and even negotiate – the offers your student receives.

Nat Smitobol & Nancy Dunn

Session 7: After You Click Submit

Peer behind the curtain with Jon and Tiffany to learn how the admissions staff evaluates your kid’s college application. Who reads it? What do they really look for? How do they rank grades, test scores, activities, and recommendations? Does Early Decision pay off? Learn about all the factors that drive the decision process.

Jon Boeckenstedt & Tiffany Blessing

Session 8: Nailing the Application

Get down to brass tacks, with practical tips to guide your student while filling out the application. Includes advice on writing the essay, listing co-curricular activities, answering supplemental questions, preparing for an interview, as well as procuring letters of recommendation.

Ethan Sawyer & Sydney Montgomery
